Blackberry Bold vs Blackberry Tour – Rim Deceiving The Public

I know it’s not nice to call RIM someone who is intentionally out to deceive people, but it does seem a pinch like that…. Because When I found out there was a new version of the blackberry out, mine being a 9000 series, this one being a 9630 any logical person would assume that this was a “newer” version.
If “new” is decided by the release date alone, then by all means this is very new. However, if new means an improvement on the old, I’d beg to differ… Because this is FAR from an improvement.
The sheer facts surrounding what’s REALLY wrong with the “Tour” actually pissed me off…
Sorry, but it did, because I would have thought it cool to upgrade… Until you find out what I did!
Let’s do a short and very straight forward pro/con list to discuss whether this is an improvement or a fall back.
PRO…
- Has the elements of the Blackberry Storm’s operating system (without touch screen of course), and elements of the Bold’s operating system…
- Has world phone capabilities that the Bold doesn’t, namely EVDO, CDMA2000, UMTS/HSPA networks etc.
- Slightly smaller physically (six grams lighter than bold), and slightly bigger screen (by about 40 pixels)
- Bluetooth v2.0 (means stereo headsets instead of mono etc..)
- 3.2 Megapixel Camera (bold has a 2 megapixel)
That’s where the new “pro’ list ends, it literally has no features the Bold Doesn’t have except what’s listed above.
if you’re not sure or think I’m biased or would like to double check see The Blackberry Tour/Bold Comparison straight from RIM themselves.
Now for the CON list, are you sitting down?
- No WIFI of any kind No Wireless B/G/A (Bold has it though) ZERO wireless internet!
- No Onboard Memory at all (Bold has 1GB of onboard memory!)
- Media Player nolonger supports Divx/ASF Movies (Bold does!)
- Smaller Keyboard (Bold’s is bigger and a little easier to type on…)
Doesn’t sound like a ton of drawbacks, but it sure is in the long run. It’s an obvious choice
to remain a Bold user for a lot longer yet. Seems blackberry added some sweet new toys
to an old bag of tricks in my eyes.
I mean the WIFI is pretty much a deal killer in itself. But killing the onboard
memory and giving you a bigger camera, now that’s cheap. AND you can’t
play downloaded movies anymore?
Come on!
I hope Rim’s coming out with a high end unit soon, one that still keeps all
the good features and adds a bit more speed to the already lagging Bold.
Until Next Time
